FORTY ROSES mixed media assemblage, found & rejigged vintage cabinet, walrus tusk carved whale on front glass, stamps replicating the ones used on the whalers. Stamps were used in log books visualizing whales missed, seen, caught.
Top left - oakum. Top left - dried rock weed, Lower area - reproduced whaling logs on transparent labels. Glass shelf in the centre - whale stamps. Side panel - painted on canvas, 'Lover's Eye' replicating 18thC miniature lover's eyes painted for keepsakes. Front door quote: Milton Acorn from his poem The Sea.

Tinker King [Tide Rise Tide Fall] mixed media assemblage, found & rejigged vintage cabinet, found fishing tools & equipment.
Top shelf - thread and two curved needles, leather needle pusher/or leather palm used to mend sails, wooden needle for mending sails, wood fid for splicing rope. Second shelf - wooden buoy with rope, lead kidney weight for fishing halibut, glass float & rope, metal iconic fishing sheds, metal flags, wooden dory oar locks.

Calan's Pride [Talk is Cheap but Fish is Scarce] mixed media assemblage, found & rejigged vintage cabinet, found fishing tools & equipment. Top shelf - 19thc jib hanks, image transfer of Lobster box label from Pictou, NS. Second Shelf - jib hanks, lobster measure/lobster gauge -wood & metal functional, but also a piece of folk art looking exactly like a lobster, metal iconic fishing sheds. Lower shelf - handmade lobster measure wood & metal, iconic metal salt house, image transfer of preparing equipment on the wharf. Bridget D [2 Cents for Haddock] found & rejigged vintage cabinet, found fishing tools & equipment. Top shelf - handline (wood reel & plastic line). Second shelf - 4 squid jigs in serial form. Lower shelf - wooden cover for wooden box "Emerald Isle" boned & salted codfish prepared in Shelburne, NS, handmade wood squid jigger case & string winder with squid jig on plastic line (the case has carved initials E.W. - in other words it can't be confused with anyone else's case), small wood reel with rope. Top shelf - deadeye thick wooden disc which guides & controls the line, dory oil lamp with cloth wick. Second shelf - handmade knife with leather strap. Lower shelf - Fancy Quality Sea Nymph Brand, Boneless Salt Cod label in image transfer, wooden hook straightener, dried cod skin in box. Front door of box - iconic metal fish shed, church, Cape Island vessel. Inside lid - vintage illos of cod skull segments. Inside box- fish jig mould (waxed inside; mould is nailed closed; hot lead is poured in; when cool, it is pried open & lead fish jig emerges; hooks are set into hot lead.) 16" (L) x 9" (W) x 10" (D) $1200 2017

Top - antique square nails hand forged.
Front panel - painted on canvas - 'Lover's Eye' replicating 18thC miniature lover's eyes painted for keepsakes.
Back panel - painting of Cape Islander in rough seas heading home. Inside cabinet - 2 examples of fishing leads to sink hooks on a hand line, bracketing an antique hook straightener/ or hook set - different fishermen call them by different identifiers.
